Independent Drivers Guild of Connecticut Host Drivers Appreciation Day in New Haven

10 Sep 2021

New Haven, CT — On Saturday, August 21st, impending rain didn’t stop the Connecticut chapter of the Independent Drivers Guild from hosting 200 people at the state’s first Drivers Appreciation Day. The day was a chance for rideshare drivers and their families to gather together for some fun and food after what’s been a long and trying year for all.

In addition to the magic show, soccer games, and face painting, vendors were also present to share resources with drivers, like free cell phones, tablets, and wifi for those who qualify. Access Health CT was also there to help people learn more about the free and low-cost healthcare available to them.

Because of the difficulties that drivers face every year, but especially after the height of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Independent Drivers Guild has worked hard to help their fellow drivers. Those efforts were recognized by House Labor Chair Rep. Robyn Porter and Progressive Caucus Vice Chair Rep. Anne Hughes, who both attended the event and presented citations of recognition.

Senate Labor Chair Sen. Kusher and Rep. David Michel also sent citations recognizing the work that the Independent Drivers Guild has done to improve the working conditions of drivers. While we at the IDG are honored to receive such high praise for the work that we do, our reward is seeing our efforts resulting in industry changes that give drivers the power they deserve.

We look forward to our next Drivers Appreciation Day and thank everyone for coming out and making the day special. We especially appreciate the organizing efforts of Sohail Rana and the rest of the IDG team.
